IMPROVING NUTRITION IN UTTAR PRADESH: INSIGHTS FROM EXAMINING TRENDS IN OUTCOMES, DETERMINANTS AND INTERVENTIONS BETWEEN 2006 AND 2016

Uttar Pradesh, situated in the northern part of India, accounts for 7.3 percent of the area of the country, includes 75 districts subdivided into 822 blocks, 97,814 villages, and 689 cities and towns (Uttar Pradesh State Government, 2017). Uttar Pradesh is home to more than 199 million people (16.17 percent of the population of India) of which 67.68 percent is literate. The state has a sex ratio of 912 females per 1,000 males (Census of India, 2011).

The purpose of this Policy Note is to examine the trends in undernutrition in Uttar Pradesh and to document trends and geographic variability in the major determinants of nutrition and the coverage of key nutrition and health interventions. In doing this analysis, we aim to highlight key areas for actions to improve nutrition in Uttar Pradesh.
