The Aahar project promotes community-based management of acute malnutrition across Dharavi, an informal settlement in Mumbai and one of the largest slums in Asia.

In the project, community organizers work with Integrated Child Development Services supervisors and anganwadi workers to identify and treat malnutrition in children; make referrals to public healthcare facilities for antenatal and postnatal care; conduct behavioral change communication on breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and care practices through home-based and group counselling; and enhance the knowledge and skills of ICDS staff.
